Gunshots were heard in Mfuleni last night between 10 and 11pm. This morning a man was found dead in an open field opposite the St John’s church in Tokwane Road. About 150 metres from his body, there was a bag containing cellphones. According to police, the man was in his early 20s and appears to have died from an injury to the head, as opposed to a gunshot wound. Residents of Mfuleni who gathered to watch this morning speculated that it was a mob justice killing.
