Mayor Patricia De Lille and her arch-enemy Tony Ehrenreich, the leader of the ANC in the City Council, have made a shock joint announcement. The two will put aside their differences to compete in the next season of the popular reality television show Strictly Come Dancing.

They will dance as a couple, competing against other celebrities in the next series of the highly successful programme. The new series is aimed at bringing enemies in public life to dance together. Season 7 judge, renowned dancer Michael Wentink, told GroundUp, “We want to show that you can be enemies in your work life, but still be friends in your leisure time. And what better way to do that than through dance?”

The two have already begun practising together. De Lille explained her decision: “Tony might behave like an incompetent clueless fool on the city council, but he never puts a foot wrong in the tango. He is so deft at the abrazo.”

Ehrenreich also had high praise for his partner. “The mayor might misrule the most racist city in the country, but she can salsa like there’s no tomorrow. We hope to show fellow South Africans that whatever the rough-and-rumba of politics, we can still get along.”

It is understood that the score of their first public dance will be One Direction’s You & I.

Other famous rivals have also been approached. The show’s producers are trying to get Sunette Bridges to team up with Chester Missing and it is understood that Graeme Smith and Kevin Pietersen are considering competing as the show’s first all-male partnership.
