Clashes between police and residents have once again erupted in Masiphumelele.

By 2am on Friday, the main road and all roads coming in and out of Masiphumelele were blocked by protesters. Residents placed containers and old cars in the roads to block the police from coming into the community. No one was allowed to go to work or to take pictures of the protest.

Some residents threw stones at the police. The police used rubber bullets and teargas.

Sources in the community say the violence erupted after a man was arrested yesterday in Longbeach Mall allegedly in connection with the recent incident of mob justice.

Residents are demanding he be released or the whole community be arrested. They are extremely angry. Members of the community are being forbidden to speak to the media
