Residents in Eldorado Park have lost confidence in the police, accused of failing to respond to crime in their suburb. They have formed patrol groups who have all but replaced the police in the community.

Last year Nathaniel Julies, a child with Down’s syndrome, was shot dead, allegedly by police. The death highlighted the strained relationship between the community and SAPS.

The patrollers say they will do anything to protect their families.
